When clipping toenails it is important to trim below the quick. If the nail is trimmed too short and the quick is nicked the toenail will bleed. The quick is easily seen on light colored toenails. The place you want to trim is just below where this pink quick finishes. It may be much more difficult to determine where the quick finishes on dark or black toenails. If you are unsure or not confident in trimming your pet's toenails, the veterinarian or vet nurse would be happy to show you.
